Working to stop litter from leaking into nature
Litter leaking into nature is a problem all over the world. According to OECD data for 2019, of 35.3 million tons of plastic waste, 8.2 million tons (22%) were mismanaged, for example in uncontrolled dumpsites or open burning, and are thought to have leaked into the environment. To solve this big problem, it is important to keep collecting litter that has leaked into nature, step by step.

Keep plastic litter out of the ocean
In recent years the scale of marine plastic pollution has become clear, and concern has grown. Litter on land is named as a major source. Once it flows into the sea through rivers, it is hard to collect, so it is important to pick it up while it is still on land.
Keep towns clean and safe
More litter on the street makes daily life less pleasant, in both looks and hygiene. Some studies also suggest that leaving litter may lead to worse public safety. To keep towns pleasant and safe, it helps to pick up litter often, even a little at a time.
Recycle resources without waste
Litter in towns includes many things that should be recycled, such as cans, plastic bottles and plastic film. By returning them to the recycling process and handling them properly, we can help move "Responsible Consumption and Production" forward.
